Possible causes of this fault code include:

  • signal shorted to ground in the harness or ECM
  • signal shorted to return or ground in the sensor.

Also keep in mind often if your coolant is low it will also show a false code.

The fault code 145 with SPN 110 and FMI (Failure Mode Identifier) for a Cummins ISX engine indicates an issue related to the engine coolant temperature sensor. Here's a breakdown of the fault code components:

  • SPN (Suspect Parameter Number): SPN 110 refers to the engine coolant temperature sensor. This sensor is responsible for monitoring the temperature of the engine coolant, providing information to the engine control module (ECM) to adjust fuel delivery and manage engine performance.
  • FMI (Failure Mode Identifier): FMI indicates the specific type of fault or problem related to the SPN. FMI 0 indicates data valid but above normal operational range, while FMI 1 indicates data valid but below normal operational range. Other FMI values may indicate electrical faults, open circuits, or short circuits.
Considering the information provided, fault code 145 with SPN 110 FMI on a Cummins ISX engine suggests that there is an issue with the engine coolant temperature sensor, indicating that the temperature readings are either above or below the normal operational range. It's essential to diagnose and address this problem promptly to ensure proper engine performance and prevent potential engine damage from overheating or incorrect fuel delivery. To resolve the issue, it is recommended to consult the Cummins service manual or contact a certified Cummins technician for further assistance and proper troubleshooting.
